Flour Mills Nigeria has partnered with Tractor On the Go in a bid to fulfill their “feed the nation agenda”.

TOG will provide mechanization services to the company’s farmlands in Kano, Jigawa, and Kebbi. Prior to joining the TOG service, the company’s wheat farms used manual methods to carry out their harvesting. With TOG, the group’s over 5,000 hectares can use combine harvesters to harvest their wheat grains at maturity and at a faster rate unprecedented so far.

In 2020, Nigeria produced 60 tonnes of wheat according to FAO data. Meanwhile the country consumed up to 4760 tonnes of wheat in the same year. Wheat is the second most imported product in Nigeria. This means Nigeria produces only about 2% of its annual consumption.

Generally, Nigerian flour millers prefer to source their wheat locally. However, shortages and inconsistencies in local production make it harder for the industry stakeholders to rely on local production. The lack of mechanization and seedlings also serve as impediments.

Flour Mills Nigeria plan to use new technologies and synergies with other stakeholders in the agricultural value chain to transform wheat production in Nigeria. This aligns with the company’s over goal as one of the largest food companies in Nigeria to create products of superior quality for the average Nigerian.

With TOG’s mechanized services for their wheat farms, FMN now has the ability to produce wheat grains for its production lines at a higher scale than ever before.
